Which chain drive or shaft drive is more efficient

Regarding the efficiency of chain transmission and shaft transmission, usually the efficiency of shaft transmission is higher than that of chain transmission.

The shaft transmission transmits power to each component through the shaft, and its efficiency is mainly affected by the bearing lubrication condition and machining accuracy. Under good working conditions, the efficiency of shaft transmission can reach more than 90%.

In contrast, chain transmission transmits power through the intermeshing of chain links and sprockets, and its efficiency is affected by the combined effect of chain materials, manufacturing processes and lubrication conditions. Generally speaking, the efficiency of chain transmission is between 75% and 90%.

Although the efficiency of shaft transmission is high, chain transmission is still widely used in specific occasions due to its compact structure, convenient installation and adjustment, and low cost. When choosing a transmission method, factors such as efficiency, cost and actual use needs must be comprehensively considered.
